Yes. If it has two wheels and a motor and is street legal, then it requires the same kind of license endorsement as any motorcycle. It doesn't matter if it is a 50cc vespa or an 1800 cc Honda. Your safety course will train you on probably something like a 250 cc Honda Rebel motorcycle and you will take the test on something like that. It would be much harder to pass the test on a scooter, so be glad if you can take the test on something larger.

Do you Have insurance for a scooter that is LESS than 50 CC in Kansas?

When is a moped a moped, and not a motor scooter or a motorcycle? If it: * Has two or three wheels; * Can be propelled by a human (with pedals) or a motor, or both; * Has a motor with no more than 3.5 horsepower and 130 cubic centimeter (ccs) cylinder capacity; * Can't go more than 30 miles an hour. In other words, if your vehicle can't get up to highway speed, it's probably a moped. As long as you have a current Kansas driver's license or a motorcycle license, you may legally operate a motor scooter on Kansas highways. You are also required to wear a helmet (if you are under 18) and all riders must wear eye protection. If you want to legally carry a passenger, the moped must be equipped with a permanently-attached seat designed for passengers. All passengers must ride astride―no handstands, please. All mopeds driven on Kansas highways are required to have current motor vehicle insurance and be legally registered with the Kansas DMV. The definition of motor-driven cycle, which includes motor scooters, refers to any two-wheel vehicle "with a motor which produces not to exceed 5 brake horsepower" according to the Kansas Motorcycle Manual. Basically, it's considered a small motorcycle. Because a motor scooter is defined as having a higher horsepower than a moped, to ride one, you have to get a motorcycle operator's driver's license. Motor scooter rules are the same as motor cycle rules. Every driver and passenger must wear a safety helmet (if they are under 18), all riders must wear eye protection, and in order to legally carry a passenger, there must be a permanently affixed seat on the motor scooter. To learn more about motor scooter operating rules, refer to the Kansas State Motorcycle Operator's Manual. The registration process for mopeds and motor scooters is the same as for all other motorcycle registrations completed in Kansas. If you purchase your motor scooter or moped through a dealership, the dealer will take care of the registration and titling paperwork for you and will provide you with temporary tags for the vehicle. If you purchase your motor scooter or motorcycle through a private party, the registration process is also the same as for other previously-owned motorcycle registrations. How old do you have to be to get a license for street bikes in Florida?

16 years old. And come January, 2007. You can't register a motorcycle in your name unless you have a motorcycle endorsement. There is no motorcycle license in Florida. You need to first obtain a driver's license -- which you can do at 16 -- and then get a motorcycle endorsement for it, which is granted only after a motorcycle safety class is completed.

What is the origin of the word moped?

There are two different words with different meanings, different origins, but spelled the same way. One is the past tense of the act of moping, the other is a very small motorcycle. Originally those were motorized bicycles, and besides the motor, had pedals. Mo-ped.

What are Texas motor scooter laws?

Texas DMV has the laws online. For 50cc or lower IF it qualifies as a moped...some do, some don't and the approved list is online too at DMV..then you take a written test and can get a moped license at age 15. Anyone with a reg. drivers license can also ride a moped. If the 50 cc does not qualify as a moped or is larger than 50cc, you need a motorcycle license which is just an M on your regular drivers license. Almost everyone gets this by taking a motorcycle safety course, then taking the written motorcycle test at DMV. An Aprilia 50 cc does not qualify as a moped, but the Honda Metro 50cc does in Texas. The driving rules that apply are the same for both cars and scooters with one exception: Mopeds can use bike lanes. It would not be legal to ride on sidewalks, but then it isn't legal for bicycles to ride on sidewalks either. Texas defines a moped as a motorized vehicle no larger than 50cc capable of speeds no greater than 30 mph. For this reason many 50cc scooters are restricted. The dealer can de-restrict the scooter to make it go a little faster. The Aprilia 50 goes 42 mph. Here's a general rule on speeds: 50 ccs go 25-40 mph (although the Aprilia RS50 goes 50 mph), 125 cc scooters go 55-60 mph, 150cc about 65mph. 250cc scooters go 70-80 mph. The old vintage mopeds that are chain driven only go about 25 mph. All motorized vehicles require license plates. Mopeds have a little sticker added to the plate. You must carry liability insurance as a minimum too and the cost of the title and registration is the same for all scooters, mopeds, motorcycles.

When on the roadway do bicyclists and moped riders have the same rights as motor vehicle?

Do you need a motorcycle license to ride the xingyue 150 cc motorcycle in Arizona?

Yes, per the Arizona MVD. Any motorized cycle requires a class M licence or endorsement. However any cycle with an engine under 50cc of displacement, and a top speed under 25mph classifies as a moped (even if it has no petals), and only requires a standard drivers license. The basic rule here is "if it goes fast enough to ride it in traffic, you need a license to drive it"
