Ninja = 忍者 (Rěnzhě)
There is no such thing as a Chinese ninja. Ninjas originated from japan. however China had far superior karate masters. So basicaly the Chinese were highly skilled in karate but not with weapons. whereas the Japanese knew karate but they weren't as good as the Chinese but the Japanese were highly skilled with weapons. so in my opinion, in a fight between a feudal Chinese warrior and a feudal Japanese warrior (ninja) , the Japanese ninja would win
my understanding is that ninja means,"one who is patient". Ninja can be traced back to the chinese characters nin, and sha. Chinese is very similar to written Japanese, so it is fairly easy to translate back and forth.

Chinese warriors sometimes have a mustache, wear a piece of armor, ties their hair up and never washes their hair
In Japanese, the Kanji alphabet uses mostly Chinese characters that represent ideas instead of sounds. Therefore, each kanji character can be read phonetically either in Japanese or Chinese. The word 'ninja' comes from the Chinese characters 'nin' and 'sha' (which basically mean 'stealth' and 'person'). Those same characters, in Japanese kanji, are read as 'shinobi no mono'. So the Japanese word for 'ninja' is 'shinobi'.
