If only it were so easy! There are many non kosher animals. Here's are short list: shellfish, pigs, horses, camels, birds of prey, anything that eats dead stuff, dogs, cats, and more.

If a mammal does not chew it's cud AND have a fully split hoof, then it is not kosher. If you want more then Wikipedia has tons of info.

Is macon kosher?

If the question refers to Macon, Georgia . . . places are neither kosher nor unkosher. If the question refers to bacon, then the answer is no. The pig is a non-kosher animal; nothing can be done to any part of it to render it kosher. Just like rabbit, camel, horse, many others.

Are pigs kosher?

No. For a land animal to be Kosher it has to have split hooves AND chew its cud. A pig isn't kosher because it doesn't chew it's cud.

Can a pig ever be kosher?

If the requirements for kosher food are for animals to have split hooves and to chew their cud would a pig that chewed its cud be considered kosher?

Answer 1No. The rules are not in place for the individual animal, but apply to the species as a whole.Answer 2That is actually a question worthy of a detailed answer. We know this because such an occurrence actually came to pass. In Brazil, about a decade ago, there was a pig born with a certain genetic abnormality that required it to chew its cud and therefore fall within the kosher requirements. Rabbis from all over the world convened to discuss whether or not this pig could be considered kosher. They ultimately decided that this pig met the qualifications to be kosher, but should still not be deemed kosher. The fear was that the consumption of this pig would confuse other Jews and non-Jews into believing that pork in general is consumable (which it is not) because the appearance of this pig and its meat is no different than any other pig and its meat.

Why is pig considered the most unkosher of meats?

"There are two signs that identify a kosher species of animal. 1) It has split hooves, and 2) it chews its cud (i.e. it regurgitates its food and chews it over a second time.) The first sign is easy to spot - just look at the hooves. But the second is not so apparent. You have to study the animal's digestive system to know if it chews its cud. A cow is an example of an animal that fulfils both requirements, and is thus kosher. A horse is not kosher because it fulfils neither. There is only one animal in existence that seems kosher because it has split hooves, but is really not kosher because it doesn't chew its cud -- the pig." Source: www.chabad.org

I have Jewish relatives coming over and I want them to try it. They say they've never had it. So what is a recipe for kosher ham?

Ham comes from the pig which is not a kosher species of animal. It is not possible in any way to make ham kosher.

Do Islam and Judaism forbid alcohol?

Islam forbids alcohol completely. Judaism permits alcohol. It's forbidden only when the product isn't kosher; such as alcoholic beverages which include ingredients from non-kosher animals (such as pig-based additives in certain beers), or wine that does not accord with the kosher requirements of "mevushal" or the particular issues of non-Jewish contact with the fermented grapes.

Why don't Jews eat ham?

The Jews that choose to keep Kosher cannot eat bacon because it comes from pork (pig), and that is one dietary restriction of keeping Kosher

What things are non-kosher?

Birds of prey is one example. Note that the word "unclean" in the original version of this question, is a mistranslation of the Hebrew and is misleading. Foods are kosher or non-kosher, with no connection to their cleanliness. It is a spiritual concept.See also:What are the Jewish laws of keeping kosher?
