How can Christians explain the dinosaurs -gigantic reptiles that ruled the earth sucessfully for 65 million years yet we humans will probably destroy the earth in about 150000 years?

Evolution.Perfectly acceptable belief for a Christian. The vast majority of Christians accept the theory of evolution and the idea of the development of species through natural selection and the survival of the fittest.Certain sects within Christianity, especially those who hold to the idea of Biblical Literalism (a belief that the Bible either generally or in specific editions is the inerrant word of God), reject this and hold to a variety of beliefs that attempt to match the six day creation of the Bible with some of the views currently held by scientists. With respect to the second part of the question; although not entirely clear I would suggest that the answer lies in the difference between the dinosaurs and homo sapiens. Humanity is the only creature that has developed such a sophisticated ability to adapt its surroundings to itself rather than adapt (or die) in reaction to changing circumstances; as such we are, probably, more likely to damage our own ecosystem and cause our own extinction than be made extinct by ecosystem change.Alternative answerSome Christians believe that the Earth is only approx. eight thousand years old (beginning from Genesis 1:1). Certain Christian sects believe dinosaurs and man co-existed, pre-flood, when the Earth's atmosphere was totally different; much like a green house. The highly dense air was able to support such massive beings and since the Earth was not polluted with disease, man and animals lived longer (ex. Adam lived to be 930 years old). Reptiles continue to grow through out their lifetime, so a nine hundred year old iguana, or turtle, or kimodo dragon would grow to be enormous beings. After "the Flood", all went down hill. Disease increased due to the amount of decay. The atmosphere was different so some of the more enormous reptiles died off quickly. And that is when you see humans having shorter lifespan's closer to what they do today. That is how dinosaurs died off so quickly.Apart from the eyewitness record of history given in the Bible -a book which has a proven track record of reliability- the Bible is also repeatedly verified in the current day scientific discoveries of people like Dr Mary Schweitzer who in the 1990's discovered soft tissue in a T. Rex fossil, it is however important to note that peer review has disputed Dr Schweitzer's discovery and that examination of her evidence has strongly suggested contamination at source.Further to this, some Christians would also explain that the widespread accounts of man's encounters with dinosaurs (including over 200 documented sites in England alone) are evidence of the post-flood survival of some of these creatures taken aboard Noah's ark. Evolutionists must of course dismiss all these accounts as myth and legend including hundreds of accounts from various indigenous people-groups around the world including American Indians.
