Saber toothed cats belonged to the family Felidae, which is the same family as all other cats, including tigers. However, saber toothed 'tigers' were not actually a type of tiger. Instead, saber toothed cats belonged to a separate subfamily called Machairodontinae, and no surviving cats belong to that subfamily, including tigers.
