It depends on your preference. The silicon cases are better if you just want to cover the iPod Touch so you don't accidentally let go of the iPod. The hard cases are better for those who are clumsy and will drop their iPods.
I would recommend the Silicon Case, because the case is easy to take off and is pretty flexible.
I recomend a Pelican case, they are watertight and covered by a lifetime warranty and come in many colors and sizes, yeah if you drop your ipod a lot a hard case like a Pelican is great.
It depends. If you drop your iPod, the hard case will protect the iPod. Unlike the hard case, silicone cases are much smoother.
no. it is just for looks. silicone bounces if you drop it. my dog got my phone and put holes in the case, but didn't damage the phone. i dropped my ipod with a hard case and it cracked the screen. so i definately prefer silicone.
Silicon is the better protectant because it can absorb a strong impact. While hard plastic just sustains the pressure making a bit of the force carry onto whatever it is protecting.
it depends on your prenfrence, hard case keeps ipod from getting damage and protects it, rubber case can be for looks and is easy to put on and off, also after screen replacment you might want get a hard case so the screen wont fall off!
hard plastic depending on what you buy
If you end up dropping an iPod Touch on a hard surface (like wood flooring or concrete), then the iPod Touch has a very likely possibility of breaking (this is if you drop it from about 2-3 feet off of the ground). If you take care of it, the iPod Touch isn't that hard to break. If you buy the silicon cases for the iPod Touch, then it is less likely to break as the silicon cushions some of the iPod's fall.
With so many types of cases for cellphones, it can be hard to be sure what type to use. If you need added protection, a rubber skins offer better protection. They are thicker and have better shock absorbtion properties.
No. The new iPod Touch 4G's are slimer than the 3G and a hard or soft case will not fit them.
hard
It depends, if it's a hard tight fit case, then no; if it's a soft rubber case, then it should.

glass for the multi-touch screen, plastic for the casing and silicon for the chip set. It hard to come by other materials since such information is classified.
A hard case is going to protect from far more than more leather cases.
