A strawberry, thoguh it is called a "false fruit" or a "psuedocarp" [being vastly different from a normal fruit] is counted as a fruit under the title of an 'accesory fruit'.
Fruits are, in essence, the ripened ovary or ovaries of a seed-bearing plant, including the seeds. Fruits are divided into further subsections, depending on the number of ovaries the plant has or where the fruits edible portion is contained. The strawberry breaks most of the rules, as the bulk of its edible portion does not come from the ovary. Rather, a fleshy thimble shaped base grows, that many ovaries/tiny fruits grow out, looking like tiny seeds set into little dimples. In actuallity, each one of these fruits, known as 'achenes', contains a small seed inside of it.
Strawberries are [very similar too] aggregate fruits. An aggregate fruit, such as a rasberry or blackberry, is formed from a cluster of ripened overies/fruits bunching together, having originated from the same flower. Wheras, the construction of a strawberry is actually a modified receptacle, the true fruits of the strawberry being the seed-like little things embedded in it.
