They don't have dander, like a cat or dog, but it depends on what Allergies you have. Most people with Asthma or other breathing problems have the most trouble from the bedding. All bedding has dust unless you use newspaper. Newspaper is a great bedding, but has to be changed more often. I would suggest you hold and play with someone else's hamster and see if you have a reaction.

I would suggest a regular Syrian (Golden) short hair hamster for children. Long haired hamsters have more responsibilities, and need lots of grooming. Yourhamster would probably have to be short haired. It would also help if your hamster were young when you first got it, so that it could become used to your child easier, and quicker. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask the hamster expert, haha!

big animals may affect people with allergies. eg, a dog or a cat.

hamsters are different. hamsters are stored in a cage and normally not very active juring the day, so this wont affect any one with allergies towards a hamster. hamsters dont affect mainly because they dont move very often, as they are seen as lazy, easy-to-look-after pets. if you are wouried about this, check out some other websites, they may help you. overall hamsters do not affect people with allergies. however if they handle it and let it crawl their lap, they may be effected. but if they leave alone, nothing will happen. clean the cage out regulary and everything will be fine! glad to help!

I'm pretty sure they are because of their long "fur". I've heard we're allowed to wash them which means they have no body oils. so they have hair not fur. yes they are hypoallergenic
