They can be good or bad. Thunderstorms bring rain, which is essential for life. At the same time they cause problems. Some may simply be inconvenient, such as rain ruining a picnic. Most storms cause no more than minor disruptions.

At other times, however, thunderstorms can be dangerous. Poor visibility and slick roads from heavy rain can cause car accidents. Too much rain from a thunderstorm can cause flash flooding and even landslides. Lightning can electrocute people and start fires. Thunderstorms may also produce large hail, damaging wind, and tornadoes.
