However silver is less dense than gold, so an ounce of silver will take up slightly more space than an ounce of gold.

A gallon of water weighs about 8.3 to 8.4 pounds. There are 128 oz in a gallon.

That would mean each ounce weighs about 0.0648lbs to 0.0656lbs.

An ounce=1/16lb 1/16=0.0625

I think it depends a lot on the material being weighed.

Recall from physics, weight=mass*gravity

So the material involved should have more to do with things than the volume of it.
