They are both simple machines.

Lever- is a solid bar that rotates, or turns, around a fixed point. The bar can be straight or curved. The fixed point is called the fulcrum.

wedge- is a simple machine that has a thick end and a thin end. Wedges are used to cut, split, or pierce objects- or hold objects together. It is a type of inclined plane, but inclined planes are stationary, while wedges often move to do work.

Scissors are wedges and first class levers because a first class lever is a solid bar that rotates, or turns, around a fixed point. The bar can be straight or curved. The fixed point is called the fulcrum(screw in this example).
