Is the 1999 Toyota Solara V6 an interference engine?

No, the V-6 used in the Gen I Solara (through 2003) is not an interference engine (I.E. the valves and pistons won't collide if the timing belt breaks. BUT that doesn't mean an owner should ignore the maintenance schedule on the belt. Even if it looks brand new, the belt should be replaced every 90,000 miles or ten years, whichever comes first. Failure to do that means the belt could snap and the engine will stop running immediately. It would be as if you turned off the ignition. Imagine that happening during a jammed up rush hour and you're in the middle of a clogged highway. Do you really want to push the car out of the way? Or it could happen on a moonless night in the middle of nowhere in the exact spot where there's no cell service. Or....you get my drift. It probably isn't going to break and strand you in your driveway. BTW the V-6 used in the Gen II Solara ('04 and later) is an interference engine. If the belt breaks the pistons and valves will find each other and the repairs will be very very expensive. Cheers

Is a Toyota Camry Solara faster than a Volvo xc90?

The 0-60 time for the Gen II Solara (04 and later) is 7.04 seconds. The 0-60 time for the Volvo is 7.2 seconds. (both figures from the "Top Speed" website.) So, while it's doubtful anyone has ever purchased a Solara thinking it's a race car the Toyota is faster than the Volvo. Cheers

Have the alignment checked. I suppose hard acceleration could cause torque steer. I have never experienced that in my 04.

Who makes Replacement keys for Toyota solara convertible?

The simplest and most reliable source is your local Toyota dealer. If you have a Generation I Solara keys are sold on E-Bay. Gen II ('04 to present) have a security chip inside so need to be programmed and don't appear to be available online, at least following a cursory search. Cheers, Gadget

How long does a 2004 Toyota solara timing belt last?

Good question and certainly one you don't want to find the answer to with your own engine. Actually Toyota probably has a pretty good idea as do those who've had to foot the bill when the belt failed. The 04 and later V-6 is known as an "interference" engine meaning if the belt fails, valves and pistons can collide with catastrophic (and expensive) results. The earlier Generation I Solara V-6 (through '03) was 'non interference' so if the belt happened to fail the engine would stop but no serious damage would occur. So, to answer your question (and save your engine) the service recommendation on the belt is 90-thousand miles or ten years whichever occurs first. When replacing the belt, it's also a wise move to replace the water pump. Everything that's removed for the belt is also removed for pump replacement and why pay that labor bill twice? If you don't have a service interval listing for your car (obviously you don't) it can be downloaded from Toyota's website. Or download the factory service manual or purchase a Haynes or Clymer's manual for your car. Cheers

Does the Toyota solara have a cigarette lighter?

There is a 12 volt female accessory port (or two depending on year/model). My '04 Solara has two, one in the center dash and another in the center console storage area. You can use either one for a cigarette lighter. You can purchase the lighter at any auto supply store. One little rub, on the '04 and later (not sure about the gen I Solara) there's no ashtray. You could use the cup-holder (drop in a cup). It'd be a lot less hassle just to stop smoking. ;) Cheers
