I wouldn't recommend it as a first choice for a career. I would do it on the side and try to make a career out of it, but as far as being a main source of income and job stability it isn't good at all. Because more and more artists are recording on their own for fractions of the cost of a professional studio it's very hard to find jobs, and those jobs that are there aren't paying much. I would study something else that you can fall back on and then get your own gear and record on your time building your skills then trying to get in with a studio that way. People spend a lot of money going to schools for recording and walk away with a certificate that says they know how to record. That certificate really means nothing outside of the music business. If you can't maintain a career in recording then you are out of luck because that certificate is pretty much worthless.
