no because the hypothesis is a guess to try and predict of what the conclusion is going to be, and it dosent matter if it dosent support the conclusion the experiment is still right

It could mean a lot of things, and not necessarily your experiment was a failure.


In 1938, Roy Plunkett wrote a hypothesis that if he were to react perfluoroethylene with chlorine, he would get a very good new refrigerant. His hypothesis failed because the perfluoroethylene was delivered in a steel cylinder. While it was waiting to be experimented with, the stuff polymerized into a solid, so he wasn't able to react it with chlorine. He cut the cylinder open and discovered the solid was extremely slick--today DuPont does this on purpose and calls the product Teflon.


Another failed hypothesis. A British pharmaceutical company invented a new drug named sildenafil. Their hypothesis was it would lower blood pressure. It doesn't do that, but they discovered it will cause impotent men to have erections. Today the drug is sold as Viagra.

a hypothesis is given to explain a phenomena which has not been explained till then. it can be supported by an experiment if that experiment gets the other results regarding that particular phenomena in agreement with that being predicted by the hypothesis and if any contradictory fact arises or the result doesnt match the prediction then the hypothesis is again thought upon or totally discarded at times
