Not at all. All you need to do is log in with your regular Google account login. If you don't have a google login then click creat account an follow the simple steps.

You can get rid of your iGoogle page by going to your upper righgt and clicking on Classic Home and it should take you back to your normal google page.
It is because of the extension or the homepage set to iGoogle. You can remove the extension to get a blank page.
The i in igoogle represents the fact that that page is your personal content and it refers to you(or I in first person veiw)

If you are trying to get back to the old Google page instead of the new iGoogle one, go to the upper right hand corner of the new one and click "Classic Home" and you should be good.
