I would say that the C&G 2330 is mostly your theoretical study with hands skills modules and your NVQ 3 is all the experience you gather on site. Both are important and are dependent on the other ie; you can't do one without the other. However i have heard of people who have done their AM2 without doing NVQ 3 and only doing 2330 as long as they have some work experience thus saving you a lot of time/money.

Universities were not called guilds, but they functioned very much as guilds did. The undergraduate education in the universities was very like the journeyman stage of becoming a guild member, and the post graduate work leading to the master's degree was very like the production of a master work for the guilds. The structure of the university was quite possibly modeled on crafts guilds. Some guilds even had a higher level of membership than master, which was analogous to a doctorate.

what is theacademic equivalent of a cmi level 5 management diploma I believe this is the same level of study as a Higher National Diploma. In the new QCF framework all qualifications are issued as awards, certificates or diplomas depending on how many credits are achieved. The CMI Level 5 diploma in management is worth 62 credits (credits may depend on where it is studied and what optional units are delivered). See: http://www.qcda.gov.uk/8150.aspx and http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/index.aspx for more information.
An advanced diploma is a level 8 award a bachelor degree is a elvel 7 [Pass] or level 8 [hons] An advanced diploma is not a commonly used term in the United States and means different things in different countries. So there's really no way to compare. Bachelor's degrees themselves vary in duration.
A BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary diploma is equivalent to two A levels.
