Artillery is currently and has historically been used for enemy suppression and close support of allied units. While artillery fire can be devastating (anyone who has witnessed a battery firing for effect can attest to this), it is effective only in an area. Modern artillery, with computer controlled fire systems, can be very accurate; however, it cannot be pinpoint accurate such as laser guided munitions or G&C oriented missiles.

Most nations do not, however: third-world countries, insurgencies, and guerrilla type groups can sometimes be seen with them.

AnswerThere are two possible answers to your question, depending on the nuances. In particular, I'm assuming you are talking about weapons used by organized armed forces of countries, not militias or guerrillas (both of whom tend to use whichever weapons are lying around or can be stolen).

If you are asking which weapons are still being used by soldiers today, which were either made during WW1 or have only trivial design changes from weapons used during WW1, here's a list of those weapons still in use:

  • The various .30 caliber Browning machine guns, most particularly the .30 caliber water-cooled M1917 version. The air-cooled version was designed in 1919, and is much more common today than the water-cooled version, but both are still relatively common in both main-line army units in 3rd-tier armies and in the reserve units of many 1st and 2nd tier armies.
  • The .45 Colt Automatic Pistol, known as the M1911 in US service. This is probably the second most common pistol in military service world-wide, with at least some use in virtually all military services.
  • The .30 Lee-Enfield bolt-action rifle and its derivatives are found world-wide in many army services, particularly in countries part of the British Commonwealth (or formerly British Empire ones). It is heavily used as a sniper rifle by all such militaries (including the British Army), and is commonly found equipping reserve formations in 2nd-tier militaries, instead of an assault rifle. It's also very common for parade and ceremonial use, particularly for honor guards.
  • In those armies which have not shifted over to razor wire or cocertina wire, barbed wire is still the primary infantry obstacle, and hasn't changed significantly since the late-1800s.

If you are asking which weapons soldiers still use which are substantially similar to designs of weapons used during WW1, but with possible updates (like change in manufacturing materials, or more than cosmetic or trivial design changes), here's a list:

  • High-tech entrenching tools look very similar to the Trench Shovel of WW1, but are now made of mostly synthetic materials and tend to be collapsible designs. Nonetheless, a very significant number of militaries use an entrenching tool that a WW1 soldier would instantly identify as being extremely similar to what they used. In fact, the common short spade shovel is still the primary entrenching tool of the vast majority of armies.
  • Most modern bayonets are visually extremely similar to those used in WW1. In many armies, the bayonet has been replaced by the multi-purpose knife, but in those where true bayonets are still used, they look virtually identical to those made in WW1. However, the modern combat knife is a derivative of the WW2 (not WW1) combat knife, and bears little resemblance to the combat knife of WW1.
  • The WW1 trench mortar and today's light infantry mortar are extremely similar. While modern mortars are made from lighter weight materials, both the WW1 trench mortar and the modern light mortar are (from a design point) functionally identical. The WW1 Stokes Mortar is the template for virtually all modern light mortars. Mortar shells, however, are significantly updated.
  • WW1 flamethrowers and modern man-pack flamethrowers are functionally identical, though modern ones use a more sophisticated fuel mixture and are made of lighter materials.
  • Many militaries still have swords and sabres, almost exclusively for ceremonial use. Many of these traditional weapons have not significantly changed for more than a century.

Artillery is still used. Guided missiles, free flight missiles, and cannons are included. Radars, lasers, and GPS are routinely used to guide projectiles to their intended targets.
