This movie moment is based off of a speech given to the Third Army just before the invasion of Normandy. It is a stirring speech - the likes of which may have disappeared, unfortunately, from the American political scene. However, some people in the army are not patriots at all. Some are there because they need a job and can not find anything better. Some just like being soldiers and have no particular love for their country. Some are even disloyal and are traitors or spies.
