Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy!

Yes, that is morning sickness, retching without anything coming up. Some women vomit, but not everyone. It is rather horrible, but perfectly normal, and the sick feeling is a good sign that the pregnancy hormones are building up.

Most women find that morning sickness - which can strike at any time of the day - gets better by around weeks 12-14 but some unlucky ones find it persists for longer.

If this is happening first thing in the morning, try and eat a biscuit (UK) cracker (US)

so that you have something in your stomach. Get up as slowly as you can. During the day, eat small, frequent, non-greasy meals.

Try not to have an empty stomach as that makes this sick feeling worse. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water, a little at a time. Eat what you can face till the sickness gets better.

Yes I would say it is certainly a possibility, I had morning sickness for the first three months of my preganacy but was not necessarily vomitting each time. Some days I only had the sensation I needed to be sick, would wretch, but nothing would happen. I took this as being the fact that I had not eaten since the previous evening therefore had nothing in my stomach to throw up. If in doubt do a test or visit your doctor.

Absolutely. As a currently pregnant female, I can feel nauseous the whole day and not vomit once, or feel fine all day and randomly vomit. It is still morning sickness.

How early can you feel morning sickness?

When does morning sickness start? Nausea and vomiting that happen during pregnancy in the first trimester, often called as "morning sickness". In most women, symptoms of morning sickness start in 5th to 6th week of pregnancy. When does morning sickness end? These symptoms are mild and go away after the 12 to 14 weeks. Symptoms include nausea or feeling sick, as well as actually being sick. Morning sickness can occur at any time of the day though it occurs most often in the morning because blood sugar levels are low after a night without food. Hormonal changes in the first three months are probably one cause. It can be one of the most tiring problems in early pregnancy. Can you have morning sickness as early as the first day of conception?

No.

Can you have morning sickness only for one day?

In early pregnancy it is possible, but it would not be a real common thing. But every woman is different, as are her pregnancies. It might be a one day thing if your body has just detected you are pregnant and are producing high or fluctuating levels of HCG (human chorionic gonadotopin), which is a pregnancy hormone that is believed to be one of the main causes of morning sickness. Sometimes morning sickness will come only once or twice, then nothing for a few weeks, but then it really kicks in. Like the calm before the storm, so to speak. With my first pregnancy I had exactly two little waves of nausea a few days apart during the third or fourth week. That was it! Why not just take a home pregnancy test and get it over with so you will know whether to watch for more symptoms or not? Some people experience no morning sickness ever. if you really feel that you are having morning sickness, then just take a test and find out for sure if you are pregnant and that could be what is causing your symptoms. Take a test. Not everyone gets morning sickness.
