Bhindrawale was the Sikh leader in 1984 during the storming of the Sikh holy shrine, the Golden Temple of Amritsar. He was an opponent of the Government of India at the time, as he and other Sikhs felt that Sikhs were being victimised by the majority Hindu rule as many injustices were occurring against Sikhs. Many Sikhs hailed him as a hero for taking up the cause for justice but some portrayed him as a terrorist due to him taking on the the Indian Government head on.
