Yes you can, but make sure it is an non-agglomerant one. You know bunnies eat some of their poop to keep being healthy : if they eat agglomerant cat litter, it can bring a lot of gastro-intestinal problems and even to death in worst cases. Make sure of that, or event better, use another type of litter. Yesterday's News is great (I use it for my 2 bunnies), it is made from recycler newspaper and does not endanger the bunny that eats it (a little more fiber is all!). It has been recommended to me by my local rabbit shelter. You can also use wood shavings (no cedar), shredded paper or compressed wood pellets for example. If you want more infos, feel free to visit the house rabbit society's website, there is a lot of useful things on the subject available.

Is safe for a bunny to eat their bedding?

Some people say that the best type of litter material for a rabbit is plain hay. Other people say Carefresh is better. Others say Yesterday's News or a plain wood stove pellet is best. See the related question linked below for more information.

Can you use leaves as rabbit bedding?

Many rabbits eat their bedding and thats exactly what my rabbit does we put hay in her cage and she eats it so we have to put more hay in it like every week.. Hay is good but try different things like straw.

Where is the best place to let your rabbit use the bathroom?

In the litter box.Give your bunny a litter box. It can be a cat's litter box. Put it in the bunny's cage. If the bunny already uses a particular spot, put it there.(If your rabbit's cage is too small for a litter box, then it's too small anyway and you should look for something bigger. Rabbits need to stretch and hop! There are lots of cages in pet stores that are too small, so you have to be a smart consumer.)You might want a second litter box for out in the room, if the rabbit has a spot out in the room that she likes to use, too.Put hay in the bunny's litter box(es). Rabbits like to graze, so it makes them feel comfortable. It encourages litter box use, and hay eating, both good things!Keep the box clean. Scoop out soiled litter often (daily or so); completely replace the litter regularly (monthly or so); and wash the box out as needed (at least once a year, or more often if the bottom is soiled). If it smells, it needs cleaning. Rabbits are clean animals and don't smell, if you keep things clean (and if they're healthy).Don't use cat litter (clay-based). It is very bad for a rabbit's respiration, and if the bunny eats any it can lead to deadly illness. Don't use wheat or corn-based litterseither, because they're very unhealthy (high in starch). It's common for rabbits to nibble when they use the bathroom, so any litter material should be safe to eat. Safe options include:Store brands: Carefresh, Yesterday's News, BoxoNewspaperHay or strawAspen wood chips/shavings - many experts say not to use cedar or pine, because they may be toxicWood stove pellets - often available in hardware stores - make sure you get the plain kind, not the kind with accelerant or other chemicals on them

What nonliving things do rabbits need?

They need, newspaper, water, pellets, chewing wood, litterbox, litter, and cloth. Those things are all abiotic (nonliving).

Can you use kitty liter for your rabbit?

Kitty litter should not really be used for bunnies. Cat litter tends to be of the "clumping" variety and as bunnies have a tendency to eat their litter they can ingest this only to have it form into a clump in the GI tract. This kind of GI blockage will kill your bunny. It is best to use, newspaper, wood shavings, or paper pulp (such as megazorb or carefresh).

What cat litter should I use for my pet house rabbit?

Wood pellets are perfect as they are absorbent and odourless and if your rabbit wants to eat/chew them he can. Also they find it difficult to dig them and make a mess. Some packets of cat litter will say on the back if they are suitable for small animals such as rabbits.

Do guinea pigs need litter if they have wood shavings?

Depends on litter; never give your guinea pig cat litter because it swells. It could and will kill your animal. Now I recommend wood stove pellets they are very nice and easy to use. Hope I helped you, hailey

How do you litter train a 10 week old mini lop who sleeps in an indoor cage?

Many rabbits take to a litter box without effort: simply provide the box, and the bunny will do the rest!Choose a good-sized box (boxes sold for rabbits are often too small, unless you have a tiny rabbit), like a cat litter box -- even "jumbo" size is good so it's nice and comfortable for the bunny. Rabbits sometimes try to lift up their bottoms and pee over the edge of the box, so a box with high sides (except the one side where the rabbit hops in and out) is a really good idea. Boxes with lids can also be a good idea, because it can provide the rabbit with a kind of secret "hidey-hole" where he'll feel safe (but, as a general rule, anything you give a rabbit to hop into should have two doorways, otherwise the rabbit might feel trapped and avoid going in, so you should use a utility knife to cut a second doorway in the litter box lid).Choose a safe litter material. A previous answer to this question suggested clay cat litter, but this is definitely bad advice! It's very normal for rabbits to eat small amounts of their litter material, but clay will clump inside their bellies and lead to serious illness (even death). Also, clay litter is extremely dusty and this can lead to serious breathing problems in bunnies. Corncob litters are sometimes recommended, and these are fine if your rabbit doesn't eat any but most rabbits do, and it's extremely unhealthy for them and can lead to illness. Safe litter materials include:NewspaperHayAspen chips (some people say pine chips are also safe, but other people say they're toxic)Wood stove pellets -- these are compressed paper pellets sold as a starter for wood stoves; be careful to use only plain pellets, not the sort covered in chemical startersPurina brand "Yesterday's News" -- these are made for cats but they're safe for rabbitsCarefresh brand bedding or litterPut hay in the litter box: this will encourage hay eating (good for teeth, guts, and mental health), and it will encourage the rabbit to use the litter box because rabbits like to graze and poo at the same time.If your rabbit doesn't immediately take to the litter box, next time she goes to the toilet pick up the droppings, or wipe up the urine with a piece of newspaper, and put that in the litter tray. Keep doing this repeatedly, then she should start to learn to go there herself because of the scent.

What do you do when there's no cat litter?

I use wood stove wood pellets. A forty pound bag costs around five dollars at Home Depot or Lowes. My cats love it. It gradually turns to sawdust in the litter pan but it takes a while. It coats the feces when they bury it, so the litter pan is always pretty clean.

Do bunnies pee outside their cages?

The litter box should be inside the rabbit's cage. The rabbit should have access to the litter box at all times, otherwise he (or she) will never properly litter train and will soil his cage. You might want to put additional litter boxes outside the cage, for when he's allowed out. This is an especially good idea if your rabbit's allowed out in more than one room, or if you're in the process of litter training. However, always leave the main litter box inside the cage, in case your rabbit wants to run back there and use it.Many rabbit cages sold in stores are too small. The cage should fit the litter box and all other necessary supplies, and still leave enough room for your bunny to move around and stretch out.Make sure you use a safe litter material in the rabbit's box. Cat litter (clay litter) is dangerous for rabbits. Corn and wheat-based litters are not recommended, either, because if your bunny eats any of it (which is likely), it's unhealthy and can lead to illness. Safe litters include:Aspen wood chips or shavings; most sources say NOT to use pine or cedar, because these may be toxic to rabbitsCarefresh (store brand)Yesterday's news (store brand)Boxo (store brand)NewspaperStraw and/or hayWood stove pellets - make sure not to use the kind that includes accelerant or any other chemicals: just plain pellets!Put some hay in your rabbit's litter box. This will encourage good litter habits, because rabbits like to nibble as they use the washroom.See the related questions below for more info about rabbit care.

How much does bedding for a rabbit cost?

The cost of rabbit "bedding" depends on what kind you're using and where you live.Rabbits don't really use "bedding." They use litter material. Pregnant rabbits need bedding to keep their babies in; otherwise, pet rabbits don't need bedding. Rabbits are easily litter-trained. Rabbits can't use cat litter in their litter boxes: doing so can be very dangerous, even deadly (because of the dust to their nasal passages, and -- especially -- because if the rabbit eats any, it leads to digestive impaction, GI Stasis). In a rabbit's litter box you can use:NewspaperAspen wood chips (pine and cedar chips are widely advised against, they're said to be toxic)"Wood stove pellets" (these are commercial kindling; compressed paper pellets, not often sold as a pet supply but available in many hardware stores and home goods stores)Carefresh (a commercial "small pet" litter made from paper by-products)Hay or straw (be careful about what kinds you use if your rabbit tends to eat them -- only grass hays are good for adult rabbits, not alfalfa hay or straw)These options range from "free" (newspaper, if you already have a subscription) to rather expensive (Carefresh).

Can you clean a rabbits cage less if its litter box trained if so how often should you clean it?

Yep! Makes cleaning so much easier! I use wood stove pellets as litter and dump everything about every three days, depending on the size of the bunny. A 40 pound bag of wood stove pellets cost less than 5 bucks a bag at hardware stores (they're compressed hardwood pellets like feline pine). And they I spray it down with vinegar and water and wipe it out, helps control smells
