- Newspaper or newsprint
- Commercial litters like Carefresh, Yesterday's News, Cat Country, Critter Country
- Wood stove pellets (these are compressed paper or sawdust pellets used in wood stoves; make sure you don't buy ones that are covered in starter fluid)
- Aspen wood chips
- Hay
Do NOT use corn cob litters (they can lead to digestive problems, gut impaction, obesity), cat clay litter (can lead to gut impaction, sinus/breathing problems from the dust), cedar chips (phenols can lead to liver damage), oat hull litters (can lead to obesity and digestive problems), or straw (can lead to sinus/breathing problems from the dust, and ill-heatlh if the rabbit chooses to eat it instead of her hay), or wheat-based litters (can lead to obesity, digestive problems). Some sources also say not to use pine chips because phenols can lead to liver damage.
A rabbit's nest (for pregnant rabbits) can be lined with hay. Don't put anything else in the nest. The rabbit will pull some of her fur and line the hay with the soft fur.
