CSF is cerebrospinal fluid . It is a colorless fluid found in the brain and spine. It is formed in the lateral ventricles from where it circulates through the interventricular foramens into the third ventricle and finally into the fourth ventricle.
There is normally an actual space between the arachnoid layer and the pia mater known as the subarachnoid space. As noted, it contains many fibrous filaments, known as trabeculae (little beams), joining and stabilizing the two layers
It is formed by filtration of blood through the fenestrations of the choroidal capillaries in the choroid plexus. It is flows by the active transport of substances (Particularly sodium ions) across the choroid epithelium into the ventricle, water then flows passively across to maintain osmotic balance. It has also been shown that if the choroid plexus was removed the ventricles still produced substantial quantities of CSF, though less than normal. And is generally considered to be fluid movement from CNS capillaries into the parenchyma of the brain, and from there across the ependymal lining into the ventricle.
In conjunction with the other meningeal membranes, pia mater functions to cover and protect the central nervous system (CNS), to protect the blood vessels and enclose the venous sinuses near the CNS, to contain the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and to form partitions with the skull. Additionally, it produces some CSF and helps circulation of it. It has been found to have a role as being the brain's "lymphatic system". It helps produce the Blood brain barrier. And pia mater has a huge role in spinal chord deformation under compression.

Cerebrospinal fluid is found in the ventricles of the brain (which are inside the cerebral cortexes and the cerebellum) as well as flowing around the meninges of the brain and spinal cord (on the outside of both structures).
Well, technically between the arachnoid mater and the pia mater is the SUBARACHNOID space. This is where the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is located.
Cerebrospinal fluid cushions the brain and resides between the arachnoid mater and the pia mater, as well as filling all inter-cerebral spaces. It is also found in the central canal of the spinal cord.

The meninges consist of three layers of tissue between the skull and the brain and the spinal cord. From outside to inside : dura mater, arachnoid mater and pia mater. The inner two layers are filled with cerebrospinal fluid.
The dura mater is the outermost membrane of the brain and spinal cord. The dura mater is is responsible for keeping in the cerebrospinal fluid.
That space is called as sub arachnoid space. It is filled with cerebrospinal fluid.

It is protected by your vertebrae as well as three meninges (connective tissue converings) from inner to outer; Pia mater, Arachniod mater, and Dura mater.
The arachnoid mater has specializations called arachnoid granulations that extend through the dura mater into the superior sagital space. This permits cerebral spinal fluid to enter venous circulation.
