Is using or answering the cell phone while plugged in dangerous?

Unless it is defective, it is not dangerous to leave a phone charger plugged in an electrical outlet. But the transformer and circuit within the charger still draw current and dissipate a small amount of heat, so it is considered a wasteful use of electricity (and thereby damaging to the environment) to leave it plugged in when it is not charging a cell phone.

∙ 10y agoNo. Each of my sources agreed that this is an urban myth that springs from a circulating email concerning one vaguely told story from 2004. There is some danger of explosion from faulty batteries, but that is a different issue.
In my personal opinion, I don't see how a plugged-in cell phone could be any more dangerous than a plugged-in radio, coffee pot, television, microwave oven, computer, etc.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that a compatible and correctly connected, non-faulty phone charger is as inherently dangerous as is implied in this email. Strictly there is a non-zero probability that any electrical equipment left switched on might develop a fault and start a fire if unsupervised. The probability is so small it is normally ignored, but there have been deaths where some electrical appliances have started fatal fires. So from a legal viewpoint people are routinely warned never to let such items be left unsupervised.

∙ 12y agoThat depends how long you were using your cell phone while it was charging. Although, it has been proven that talking on your phone while it's charging can cause any harm, it's recommended that you don't.
