"Emily Cissy Drinkard Houston (born September 30, 1933), better known as Cissy Houston, is a Grammy Award winning American soul and gospel singer. She led a very successful career as a backup singer for such artists as Elvis Presley, Mahalia Jackson, and Aretha Franklin, and is now primarily a solo artist. She is the mother of singer and actress Whitney Houston and aunt of Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick."Source: Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cissy_Houston
Among the family members in attendance were her mother, Cissy Houston, her daughter Bobbi Kristina, her cousin Dionne Warwick, former husband Bobby Brown (who did not stay for most of the ceremony), brother Michael, step-brother Gary, and sister-in-law Patricia.
You are probably referring to Aretha Franklin, with whom she always had a close relationship, and as a child, she called her as "Auntie Ree." There have been some sources that said Aretha was also Whitney's godmother, but after Whitney died, Aretha went on some talk shows and denied this. It should be noted that Aretha seems to have had some sort of dispute with Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom), so this may explain why she no longer claims to have been Whitney's godmother.

No they hated each other
She came from a musical family-- her mother (Cissy) was a gospel singer whose vocal group also sang back-up for Elvis Presley in the late 1960s; she had a cousin who was a pop vocalist (Dionne Warwick) and an honorary aunt (some sources say godmother) who was also a well-known singer (Aretha Franklin).
No there is no relation between Cicely Tyson and Whitney Houston.
Many accounts say that she admired her Honorary Aunt, Aretha Franklin, as well as her mom Cissy Houston; and although her parents got divorced, she seems to have had a good relationship with her dad.
It has been widely reported for years that Aretha was Whitney's godmother, but after Whitney died, Aretha was interviewed on the Today show and said she had only been a friend of the family and not Whitney's godmother. However, many articles have noted that Whitney felt very close to Aretha, even calling her Aunt Ree. And there have been a few stories since Whitney's death that indicate Aretha and Whitney's mom (Cissy Houston) had some sort of disagreement or dispute, so that may have contributed to Aretha now saying she was never Whitney's godmother.
