Maggi says "Oh Yes. Make sure your meat is completely wrapped in the cling film and twist the ends to seal. If you have seasoned the meat (fillet or tenderloin) before the wrap it'll be even better. Put in at 70C for any time between an hour and 4 hours. Remove, rest 5 minutes and brown in a mixture of hot oil and butter. Slice before plating up. Delicious."

Can you use cling film in an oven?

You cannot use cling film in an oven. This is due to the fact that it will melt and contaminate the food.

How does cling film work?

Sans any research, I believe the "cling property" has to do with electron attraction to a positive (+) charge from the food wrapped.

Why does plastic food wrap cling better to some materials than others?

Mainly to do with charges. The cling film is very electrostatic so anything that is also very charged - like metal with free/de-localised electrons - it will stick to better than those less charged - like plastics. This is also why it sticks to itself - very annoyingly! Hope this was helpful! Lew

Can you microwave plastic?

You can put plastic in a microwave oven; many microwave-safe containers are made of plastic, and most plastic cling-wraps are suitable for microwave use. Some plastic bags are fine for using in the microwave oven. If in doubt about any type of plastic, read the data on the packaging or check with the manufacturer or retailer.

Is cooking in plastic bags dangerous to your health like cooking steak on a braai grid in the bag it's sold in or defrosting meat on the styrofoam tray and cling wrap it's bought in?

It is a really bad idea to put styrofoam, cling film, etc. in an oven and in contact with your food. You and I have no idea what kind of chemicals could be released and come in contact with your food, and in any event it is very likely there would be some melting or a product could catch on fire. Always use oven safe plates, baking sheets, pans, etc. in the oven and use microwave safe cooking tools in the microwave.

Does glassware affect taste of beverage?

Glassware should not affect the taste of any food because it is mostly quartz which is mostly silica. Glass is so great for food storage and consumption because it is so stable and neutral. It has no odor and taste. Metals, on the other hand, can interact with food (especially acidic food) and even impart flavors and odors to food. Glass is the best way to enjoy the pure flavors of a beverage; avoid using metal. Food grade plastic is also viable, but they're just not as neutral as glass. Fat can easily cling to plastic and I always thought that some plastic cups have that strange factory smell.

How strong is plastic wrap?

This depends on the brand. Some plastic wrap is thin and hardly sticks, while brands produced for the food/culinary industry are sold in boxes and are much thicker and stick easily. And the sticking and thickness are what is most important when it comes to plastic wrap.
