No, opiates and opioids are derived from poppies, and are narcotic pain relievers and exist in a class of depressants. Caffeine, on the other hand, is found in many plants, e.g., coffee, guarana, different types of tea, etc. It is a natural stimulant and does not, in fact, relieve pain. So, in effect, it is fairly opposite to opiates. The two are similarly addictive, however the opiates being more so.

No, Cocaine is not an opium derivative..

Opium comes from the opium poppy(Papaver somniferum), its the white milk like sap, that is then dried (Raw opium)this is then treated to get opium as it was back when it was used in medicine and sold in chemists.

This is then further treated the refine it into Morphine.. And again further treated to refine it into morphine diacetate or diacetylmorphine as its also called, another name is Diamorphine or more commonly Heroin.

Cocaine (benzoylmethylecgonine)comes not from a poppy but from a shrub/plant that grows in South america (Peru, Colombia)..

The leaves of the plant are commonly chewed and brewed into a tea by the people of the andes, in this form it does little harm to the user at all, acting as a stimulant much like coffe does. However refined it is much stronger and has been treated with many toxic substances in teh refining process.

A little extra info..

It takes approxantly 1 ton of cocoa leaves to make 1 kilo of cocoa paste.. this paste is then further refined to make cocaine.

To refine the leaves into the cocoa paste, the leaves are mixed in a big vat/pit with water to which a Bleach/Chlorine powder is added, then Suphuric acid is added and then its trampled (people with wellies MASH them with their feet) Then Kerosine is added to the mix.. approxantly one big Drum/Barrel. and the mixture is then stirred/mixed.. More of the ingredients are added if needed, further stirring occurs, then it will be left for a little while to settle. The cocaine 'paste' is then collected from the bottom of the mixing pit..Then the foul mix of Kerosine, Sulphuric acid and Chlorine bleach is just poured away into the rain forest and amazon river.

All that for one kilo of paste.. The paste is then taken to lab where it will be refined into cocaine. where its purity will be 90 - 99 % depending on method used and lab conditions.
