Fertilizer and compost are different items. Neither is better.
Compost is a soil amendment like peat moss, except it has much more. It normally contains many micro-nutrients that common fertilizers do not have. It also has live microbes fungi and bacteria that are needed by many plants to thrive.
Composts may have small amounts of N,P,K (Nitrogen, Potassium & Potash) fertilizers within it, but it depends on the source material of the compost.
Soil amendments change the structure of the soil so roots can grow better and clay soils may drain and sandy soils may hold moisture.
Fertilizers may be from chemical or organic source. They do not change the soil structure or the moisture holding capacity. Fertilizers simply supply the most needed nutrients for optimum plant growth.
For maximum plant growth and strength plants need both compost and fertilizer.
Returning the unused part of plants to the soil via compost maximizes the availability of the nutrients that your plants need and better simulates natural growth conditions.

Yes, compost can be a fertilizer.

Specifically, compost contains organic matter from decomposed animal and plant matter. Fertilizer is a source of naturally made or synthetically manufactured nutrients for plants. Compost works as a fertilizer when its organic matter supplies nutrients necessary for a plant to develop and survive.

Yes, Bcause compost material are slow reacting and long lasting material but the synthetic fertilizers are instant and remain short time in solw otherwise they leache out or evaporate. SF are specific in nutrients ie. Urea for N, SSP for P, MOP for K and so on. But the compost material can provide all types of nutrients as well as soil enzymes as they are consumed by microorganisams in soil an than released by mos. So the comopost material are better than synthetic ones.

Different people have different opinions about synthetic fertilizers being better than or not as good as compost, but synthetic fertilizers are more convenient to use than compost. They also only replenish certain nutrients and pollute the environment.

No, compost and fertilizer are not the same. Dark-colored, fresh-smelling, nutrient-rich compost is the result of the natural breakdown of carbon- and nitrogen-rich recyclables interacting with air, heat, macro- and micro-organisms and moisture for use as soil amendments, fertilizer and mulches. Fertilizers serve only to enrich soils by emphasizing macro-nutrients in the case of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) fertilizers and by sometimes including such other essential macro-nutrients (calcium, magnesium, sulfur) and micro-nutrients (boron, chlorine, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, zinc).

Both compost and fertilizer help plants grow. But over time, fertilizer leaves behind salts that are not good for the soil. Compost is also cheaper if you have your own animals or you take the time to rake your leaves and turn them into compost. The key thing is time. It can take years for manure to cure and months for plant material to decay.
