It depends on the person having it; if they had been in an accident, or born with cosmetic defects that may embarrass the 'owner' then in that view it's a lifesaver as these people can live a life without others staring at them.
Those who simply wish to look different are , in their own mind, someone matching the above people's problems.
It is ill-advised to allow someone to undergo a cosmetic op many times (simply because they weren't satisfied with the result) Doing so could lead to permanent muscle damage, as well as slackening the skin, giving wrinkles no amount of botox can fix.
You're probably thinking of the 'screen saver'.
Usually the 'screen-saver'. If a TV or computer screen is left on with the same image, it can 'burn' the image onto the screen - creating 'ghosting'. A screen-saver allows your computer to stay on - while protecting the screen's pixels.
You look up in the elements, Click Screen saver and there you have it. There are 2 screens which you can customize in IOS: The lock screen, and the desktop screen. The iPad doesn't have a traditional screen-saver function, as it goes to sleep and wakes up instantly to save battery power.
If the same image is displayed on a monitor over an extended time, the monitor will start to "burn in" that image. A screen saver causes images to move across the monitor when the monitor is not otherwise in use, thereby preventing the burn in problem.
