Compared to a monosaccharide carbohydrate, it is more complex (compare the ''di'' meaning two to the ''mono'' meaning one) as it is composed of, to put it simply, two sugar molecules whereas compared to the polysaccharide (''poly'' meaning many) carbohydrate made up of more than two sugar molecules, it is simple.
