Some music is free to download and it is legal, but, not all music you can download for free is legal.
If you download the music from a website that you pay for each song then it is legal.
If you are downloading music for free from a file sharing website then that is illegal.
If you download the music from a website that has legal rights to distribute that music and they give it free of charge then it would be legal.

∙ 13y agoIt depends on the source. A few sites (mostly connected with military bands) do offer free downloads that are properly licensed and paid for. If mechanical licenses are not being paid, however, this would be considered unlicensed distribution and duplication, which is punishable by fines up to $30,000 per infringement.

∙ 13y agoIt depends on what website you're on. Some websites let you download music for free, like bearshare either because the site is paying someone for the music, or the artist is offering. If that is not the situation, there is a good chance it is illegal.

Downloading music that is copyrighted is illegal no matter what site is being used. If the music is being downloaded for free from YouTube and is not part of public domain, then it is illegal to do so.

∙ 13y agoIt is allowed IF and ONLY IF the artists permit it. If a website is allowing downloads for music without the permission of the artist then it is not only considered theft and violation of intelectual property but, in some cases, equatable to a criminal offence. And no matter where you live, even if your country does not adheer to the same laws, it IS INTERNATIONAL COPYRIGHT VIOLATION. This applies everywhere and whoever you are, whever you are, you are subject to this law. Don't steal music. Period.

∙ 10y agoIt is definately ILLEGAL. There are several reasons for my answer.
- First of all, the videos and MP3s on Tubidy are NOT uploaded by users. Tubidy grabs videos from YouTube, converts them into mobile friendly formats for video and music. Proof of this is in the fact that all Tubidy's preview images are the same as those found on YouTube videos.
- Secondly, because Tubidy grabs videos without permission, that means that they are in violation of copyright laws against not only YouTube, but also the artists whose music it distributes for free. This results in them playing a cat and mouse game they play where YouTube occasionally blocks Tubidy from scraping their content, but Tubidy find a way around it eventually, and the cycle continues. This is why from time to time, you find that Tubidy might not be updated. That is why Tubidy is run in secret.
The thing about Tubidy though, is that it is run under a dark shroud of secrecy by a company named "Mobiventura."
I don't endorse downloading 'free' music online for it is exactly the same as STEALING. If you cant afford it now just listen to fm or internet radio till you can.
