I see nothing wrong with it. I know some majors prepare students for careers in which professional dress is expected-such as teaching, business, law and medical. However students should also have days in which they can dress more relaxed or wear school sweatshirts or t-shirts. Some colleges even have certain Uniforms for specific programs, like Robert Morris College in Chicago. They have to wear a certain uniform for their fitness(school warm-up suit), medical and cooking majors and they have a business casual dress code for the rest of the college. I don't go there but I live in the general area so when I was looking at schools I was surprised since I had never in the past heard of colleges with dress codes. I always went to public school so other than the typical no short skirts, no tank tops, bare midriffs, gang clothes, hats in the building, etc I've never had to deal with professional dress codes or uniforms.
Some colleges do have a dress code or uniform but most don't.
