Not necessarily. All that .com means it that the website that you are accessing is a company hence the .com. With .edu it just means that you are looking at an educational website hence the edu. If you are writing a paper then I would lean more towards a .edu website.

Because the use of these is restricted. Gov can only be created by the government, and Edu can only be used by registered by accredited educational institutions. Com, Net, Us, Vc, Tk, and many others can be registered by any "Riffraff" that wants one (or two, or three, or....) so these you may not be able to trust as much. Many are quite trustworthy, though--you just can't be as sure from the web address alone.
Ok, there is the http:// which stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol and the WWW. which is the World Wide Web and the .com . net .org . edu which basically tells where you are going, like .com is business and .edu is education ect
