Flu is caused by a pathogen (by viruses) but is not the pathogen itself, flu is the disease the pathogen causes. Flu is short for influenza which is an infectious disease of the respiratory system caused by influenza viruses.

Yes, the flu is a virus called Influenzavirus. There are many strains of the flu virus (influenza) in humans and other animals. All viruses are considered viruses by the microscopic identification of their appearance and properties usually done by virologists (people who study viruses).

They are caused by pathogens. A pathgen is whatever it is that is causing you to be sick..."-gen" means Make and "path" means sickness or disease.

The specific pathogens involved in making you sick with the cold or flu are called viruses. Viruses are sub-microscopic organisms that infect people. The viruses that cause influenza are of three types of Viruses: Influenza A, Influenza B and Influenza C types. The common cold is caused by over 200 different types of viruses, but most common are the rhinoviruses and the coronaviruses.

How can you tell if your body has detected the presence of a pathogen in your body?

for a single pathogen ... you can't. In fact you can't ever detect the "detection" process. But you can feel when your immune system is responding to pathogens: you secreat inferon and that gives you the shivers (fever), and that rotten, worn-out feeling that we refer to as "flu".

What would happen if an individual receives a vaccination containing a weakened pathogen?

Sometimes they will develop mild flu like symptoms and have a low grade fever. With the weakened your body will recognize the pathogen and develop antibodies against it, so your reaction would be milder then contracting the actual illness.

Is Swine Flu caused by microorganisms?

Swine flu is caused by a virus. Viruses are submicroscopic organisms that are so small they can only be "seen" with an electron microscope. A regular microscope does not allow us to see things as small as a virus particle. See the related questions below for additional information about the pathogen that causes the H1N1/09 swine flu.

What are micro organisms that cause viruses which cause diseases called?

all diseases are caused by bacteria or viruses. some example are flu (influenza virus) and swine flu (influenza A H1N1) and Meningococcemia (Meningococcus).

What effect does the vaccine have on the body?

A vaccine contains the pathogen ( a foreign body which causes diseases/illnesses) which the virus is designed to provide protection for ie: a flu vaccine will contain a flu virus, measles has the measles virus etc... - but they have been treated so they are in effect dead and so will cause no symptoms, your body can only recognise a pathogen, it does not know that it is dead and can not harm you,so your body produces antibodies ( cells that fight off and remove pathogens from the body) to fight this vaccine, the antibodies remain in the body forever (unless you have an autoimmune/immunodeficiency illness) so when you come into contact with say the flu your body already has the antibodies and you don't get sick because your body removes the pathogen before it gets chance to take hold.

Can you get rid of Swine Flu from your body?

You can't, but your body can (if you are otherwise healthy) by its use of the immune system's response to the pathogen, and your organs that help with the removal of the potentially toxic wastes involved with fighting the infection.

What causes the flu in your body?

flu or fever its always been a myth that fever is a bad sign infact fever is a good response its a defence mechanism of the body.whenever your body is attacked by any bacteria or virus the body responds by an increase in temperature ,which is helpful to kill the pathogen.
