In all of history, somewhere between one and four individuals (depending on what source you believe) have survived rabies once symptoms develop. Ever. Even with treatment. And they came out with significant brain damage.

This is why doctors will almost always give a rabies shot immediately to anyone who is bitten by an animal that might be rabid, because if they wait to see if the person actually caught rabies, it will be too late to do anything about it.

It's really, really bad.

When you live in developed country, you need not take the prophylactic rabies vaccine. When you live in developing country like India, every child should probably receive prophylactic vaccination by the time, it starts walking. But then opinion may differ amongst the experts.
