Please be very careful about thinking that we die and all go to heaven. Our Blessed Lord was very clear about this, and indicated many times both the reality of hell, and the fact that most people go there. See Matthew 7:13-14:
"Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few." (RSV CE)

Perhaps religious leaders do, because the promise or threat of one or the other is what is supposed to keep us in line as obedient Christians, Muslims or Jews.
