As someone who plans to drop out, and has family/friends who have dropped out, I can say it's not the terrible thing everyone assumes it to be. Only one of the seven people I know who have dropped out is not is college. The rest are doing perfectly fine with their lives, probably far better than they would be doing had they stayed in school.
