HN3 can be 2 things:

  • One compound is Tris(2-chloroethyl)amine is an organic compound with the formula N(CH2CH2Cl)3. It is Often abbreviated HN3 and known as nitrogen mustard gas.
  • Another is Hydrazoic acid, also known as hydrogen azide or azoimide. It is a colorless, volatile, and extremely explosive liquid at room temperature. It is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen, having chemical formula HN3.

Both are covalent compounds, but Hydrazoic acid can form ions as well.

Note that the amine is abbreviated as HN3 (without subscript) and the acid has the formula HN3 (with subscript).
