Hypnosis may be used as an adjunct in Reality Therapy as it may in any other form of therapy. The role of hypnosis in treatment may be very different, however. Reality Therapy generally avoids talking about past events because Basic Needs can only be met in the present. Reviewing past events is usually seen as unproductive. Concern is about what the client is doing now and what they can do differently to meet Basic Needs and get them closer to what they want. Hypnosis may be used to assist clients in recognizing and maintaining motivation to achieve goals, as well as to decrease stress in order to do engage in new behaviors.
