Since you have to exist to be evil, the Illuminati are not evil.

the Illuminati (1776-1785) was never an organization of the wealthy. The 'Illuminati', was founded by Adam Weishaupt, a Bavarian writer and scholar, to oppose superstition, prejudice, religious influence over public life, abuses of state power, and to support women's education and gender equality. Their goals were to overcome oppression and benefit society as a whole; far from evil.

One of the goals of the Illuminati was the overthrow of an oppressive monarchy and the control of civil authorities by the Roman Catholic Church. They were very unsuccessful in their endeavor because that monarch, Karl Theodor, Duke of Bavaria and Prince-Elector of the Holy Roman Empire, successfully destroyed the organization and imprisoned their leadership, which ended the existence of the Illuminati.

Since then, Illuminati group has been fictional. It exists only in the imagination of conspiracy theorists. It is a sort of strawman or scapegoat organization. Anyone the Conspiracy Theorists dislike or envy, they declare, on no evidence of course, that they are in the Illuminati. No one has ever, in modern times, been proven to be an Illuminatus in a court of law.
