Virgin Birth (parthenogenesis) goes back a long way before Christianity: Vishnu's many avatars often were virgin births, and Mithras and Zoroaster may also have entered the world by this unusual route.

Immaculate Conception is completely different from Virgin Birth (Mary the Mother of God was an Immaculate Conception, but she was not a Virgin Birth) and could not have arisen until the notion of Original Sin was already well-established.

It seems unlikely that any theory of Immaculate Conception could have developed before the second or third century AD - without Original Sin the concept is meaningless.

Protestants regularly confuse the issues of Immaculate Conception (Mary) and Virgin Birth (Jesus) - but really they are completely different.

What is the difference of Immaculate Conception and the Annunciation?

Immaculate Conception refers to the conception of Mary (Mother of Jesus) by two mortal parents through sexual intercourse. Immaculate refers to the view that she was born without the stain of Original Sin. It is further believed that, because of this, she lived a life without sin.In other words: Immaculate Conception refers to the circumstances of Mary's birth, not Jesus' (Jesus' birth was the Incarnation, and while His conception was certainly immaculate (which means "without stain or flaw"), it's not theImmaculate Conception with capital letters). The Virgin Birth refers to the Incarnation - the conception and birth of Our Lord through the intervention of the Holy Spirit and not through normal sexual relations with a human father.

What feast day is on December 8?

December 8 is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, which celebrates the conception of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. In Catholic understanding, Mary was uniquely free from original sin, thus her conception was immaculate. As Mary, under the title of the Immaculate Conception, is the patroness of the United States, December 8 is a holy day of obligation in the US.

What is emasculate son Jesus Christ?

More than likely, the word you are looking for is Immaculate rather than emasculate. To emasculate someone means to "make someone weak or less effective" or to "deprive a male of his identity". More literally, in ancient time it would have referred to the removal of a male's testicles to make him a eunuch.Immaculate, on the other hand, means "perfect" or "free from defect or error". So, if someone were to refer to Jesus as being immaculate, they are referring to his sinless perfection. While this is a correct description of Jesus, usually this word is used in the religious phrase "the Immaculate Conception". This belief is that all human beings are born sinful and guilty of sin. However, in some way, God intervened when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was born, and she born without sin or being guilty of sin. Thus, she was immaculate when she was conceived/born, giving rise to the phrase "the Immaculate Conception".Whether or not this idea is true or can be proved from the New Testament text is an entirely different discussion.

What Catholic Holy Day is on 12-08-2010?

Roman Catholic AnswerThe holy day on December 8 is the feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation for the Church (a non-Sunday when you must attend Mass and rest from servile labor). The Immaculate Conception is the patron saint of the United States. Judging from the homilies preached on this day for the last forty years or so, I should say that there is a lot of confusion about the Immaculate Conception. The Immaculate Conception is referring to Mary's conception in the womb of her mother, Elizabeth; NOT Jesus' conception. THAT feast (Jesus' conception) is on March 25 and is called The Annunciation of the Lord.from Modern Catholic Dictionary by John A. Hardon, S.J. Doubleday & Co., Inc. Garden City, NY 1980Immaculate Conception. Title of the Blessed Virgin as sinless from her first moment of existence. In the words of Pope Pius IX's solemn definition, made in 1864, "The most holy Virgin Mary was, in the first moment of her conception, by a unique gift of grace and privilege of almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ the Redeemer of mankind, preserved free from all stain of original sin." This means that since the first moment of her human existence the mother of Jesus was preserved from the common defect of estrangement from God, which humanity in general inherits from the sin of Adam. Her freedom from sin was an unmerited gift of God or special grace, and an exception to the law, or privilege, which no other created person has received.Neither the Greek nor Latin Fathers explicitly taught the Immaculate Conception, but they professed it implicitly in two fundamental ways. Mary, they said, was most perfect in purity of morals and holiness of life. St. Ephrem (c. 306-73) addressed Christ and Mary with the words "You and Your mother are the only ones who are totally beautiful in every way. For in You, O Lord, there is no stain, and in Your mother no stain." Mary was described as the antithesis of Eve. Again in Ephrem, "Mary and Eve [were] two people without guilt. Later one because the cause of our death, the other cause of our life." While implicit in the early writers, the Immaculate Conception had to be clarified before becoming explicit dogma. Main credit for this goes to the Franciscan John Duns Scotus (c. 1264-1308), who introduced the idea of pre-redemption in order to reconcile Mary's freedom from original sin with her conception before the coming of Christ. (Etym. Latin im-, not + maculare, to stain.)

Is Immaculate Conception actually possible?

It is. The Catholic Church believes that the Blessed Virgin Mary was immaculately conceived in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne. This immaculate conception has nothing to do with virgin birth. It means that Mary was conceived in the usual manner - by the coming together as husband and wife of her mother and father - but that, unlike nearly all other human beings, Mary's soul remained untouched by the stain of original sin from the first moment she came into being. This was an extraordinary occurence - a singular grace - and a miracle. For the rest of us all carry in our souls the shadow of the sin of our first parents, Adam and Eve. We all struggle to do what is right. We all fall short. At one time or another, we all lie to ourselves, jump to conclusions, get the wrong idea, mentally curse someone out, get fed up, cop a bad attitude, wake up on the wrong side of the bed, snap at the ones we love, fudge the truth a little, slack off here and there, fall down on the job, put someone on our "list". We can't help it. Part of what it means to be human is to have the weakness that Adam and Eve bestowed on us when they disobeyed God. Mary was different. She never experienced any of these flaws. She was miraculously preserved from these in anticipation of Jesus' incarnation. So ordinarily, immaculate conception isn't possible. But with Mary it was. The Catholic Church celebrates this miracle on December 8 of each year, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
