No, this is a pretty easy repair, Make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the starter.
a soleniod is just one item in a schematic its like a big relay if it needs to be replace its like 8 bucks, if you want the schematic for the whole starter system its basically battery+ to soleniod to starter to battery-
IF YOUR MODEL HAS AN INLINE STARTER RELAY (BIG BLUE IDENTIFIED IN ENGINE ROOM) IT MAY HAVE FAILED. IF NOT THEN CHK FOR POWER AT STARTER, IF IT HAS POWER THEN STARTER IS BAD.

I't fairly easy. Disconnect batt, Jack up front pass side car. It's in flywheel/trans area under pass side. Follow positive to end (that's the starter) Remove wires from solenoid on top & batt cable, There are 2 bolts into block & possibly 1 on a fwd brace. Remove these with socket & it will fall off. Be careful when pulling last 1. Starter is over 40#. Your new starter may/may not come with new solenoid depending on brand. if not, switch old to new starter. They come apart easy & not much inside beside a big spring. They may be a core return for your old one as well.
i believe it is an 18 gallon tank.
The starter relay on a 1999 GMC Suburban with the bib block engine is located on the solenoid for the starter. The solenoid for the starter is on top of the starter.
Follow the positive battery cable (the big one); the starter will be at the end of it.
