I'd say that perhaps it's a bit much the older children planning something between your bf and his ex, but what you don't say is what time it is that the two of you are together. If it's only been a few weeks to a few months, you two really don't have much history together, but that doesn't make it right for him to run off and leave you behind.
I'd ask him why this vacation with his ex is so important? Is he planning or trying to get back with her? You might ask him how you should feel about this re-union with his ex and see what he says. Apparently the older children don't want you in the picture, so where does this leave you?
