If that is the traditional dessert at your house then yes. People can maintain a family tradition or change it as they like. If pumpkin pie is not your favorite dessert then you can always replace it with something more to your liking such as apple or rhubarb. There really are no "pumpkin pie police" waiting to arrest you if you fail to serve pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving.

The "Turkey Coma" or feeling tired and napping after thanksgiving dinner actually does not come from the turkey but is in fact insulin shock from all of the starches consumed on that day. Other common meats consumed on Thanksgiving include fish, ham, or other non-turkey poultry such as duck, chicken or pheasant.

Yes you can have gum at dinner time. As a matter of fact, you can have gum at any time that you please. However, you cannot have gum for dinner since it is not food.
Just the fact she asked you out
New Years Eve. I believe the answer is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Many bar owners will tell you, after sunset, the bars are full of patrons. A Thanksgiving meal being considered as the best hang-over dinner a person could hope for. Also the fact that many people don't return back till work until the following Monday leaves plenty of time to recuperate.
