- No, it is not bad to get engaged and then wait a few years to get married, but, two to three years should be sufficient only if you and your fiance are trying to get your full education or getting a foot hold in careers. Also, marriage is suppose to be forever so if you are unsure of whether you want to spend the rest of your life with your fiance take your time. I need not tell you to use protection during a sexual relationship. A pregnancy often will cause major problems in a situation such as this. If your fiance is making one excuse after the other for not getting married then communicate the fact to them that you are not going to continue on with the way the relationship is and they either make up their mind soon or you are leaving. Youth flies by so quickly and you don't want to waste to waste too many years.
