Yes. If your diamond doesn't have a grading report (a certification) you have no way of knowing that you're getting what you're paying for. Differences in carat, cut, clarity and color can make a big difference in price and you won't be able to see those differences unless you are a gemologist and have access to a lab. The original diamond grading lab is the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). They developed the 4Cs system and have the toughest standards.

Certification is also necessary if you want to insure the diamond and is highly recommended if you ever want to trade up or sell it.

Can you tell if a diamond is natural if it has a rough edge rather than smooth?

The differences between natural diamonds and lab-created diamonds are best determined by a trained and certified gemologist. even if it is damaged and has a rough edge. If the diamond is a raw diamond and your query is whether or not the stone is a diamond or not, the field test for diamond is hardness. A diamond rock will scratch everything.

Will a lab created diamond test as a diamond?

Yes. A certified gemologist, however, will always be able to determine that the diamond is a lab-created diamond. It will always have a lower monetary value than a comparable natural diamond.

Is a man made diamond a gem?

In a word, yes. However, a certified gemologist will value a man-made diamond lower than a natural diamond with the same attributes, being cut, colour, carat weight and clarity.

Do plumbing contractors in Missouri need to be certified?

Plumbers in the state of Missouri need to be trained and licensed, rather than certified. Contractors, on the other hand, do not need State certification or licensing.

What is the best size of a good diamond?

Best is always relative. By 'good diamond' one can assume that you are interested in an investment-grade stone. You are well advised to buy the 'best diamond' you can afford, given these variables:Diamonds larger than one carat tend to hold their value better than smaller stones. The lower the alphabetic designation on the colourscale, the more valuable the stone, if it is a colourless diamond. (Coloured diamonds also have a value scale, with Intense Fancy being the most expensive colour.)The top clarity grade is F -- flawless, or IF -- internally flawless. Lesser clarity grades are less expensive. All else being equal, a heavier stone with top clarity and top colour, which is best displayed in the cut of the stone, will generally be a better investment.Verify that any diamond you purchase given these variables has been certified as such by a certified gemologist.Larger diamonds are generally more expensive, but not all larger diamonds are good investments.

How much is an 18 ct PLAT single diamond ring worth?

Take your ring to a local jeweler and pay for an appraisal. If the diamond is larger than one carat, you can pay a certified gemologist to document the characteristics of the diamond and verify the composition of the metal setting.

What is the best way to sell a diamond wedding ring and white gold bands?

Before you sell anything, best practices dictate that you fully understand the merits of what it is that you have to sell. If the diamond weighs more than one carat, it is worthwhile that you pay a certified gemologist to document the cut, colour, carat weight and clarity of the diamond. The certificate will also include the characteristics of the metal involved in the jewelery. This documentation will help you establish a fair market value for what you want to sell.

How much is a blood diamond worth?

Depends in the size and where they come from. Every diamond is worth what someone will pay you for it. Since these are 'black market' diamonds and are dealt in secret, you want to pay less/ sell for a lower price -- as a blood diamond than as a Kimberly certified diamond. Be aware, however, when you sell or buy a blood diamond, you are funding terrorism.

How much is a raw 14 carat blue diamond worth?

Any raw diamond can be sold to a diamond cutter for whatever the diamond cutter will pay. The price will depend on the colour and intensity of the blue, the clarity of the stone and the ability to verify that the blue colour is natural, not radiated. When cutting a diamond about 60% of its carat weight is lost. As a first step, best practices dictate that you take your stone to a certified gemologist and pay for an evaluation of the diamond. This document gives you more leverage when working with a diamond cutter, than if you simply approach one not in possession of the value of what you bring in to be cut.

Can electricity pass through diamond?

Diamond is in fact a better conductor of heat than is silver. In this context, a diamond film is used as a thermal conductor in some electronics. [Even better than this is graphene film.]
