Look up "Mokele Mbembe," which refers to alleged dinosaur sightings in Africa. These are unproven but are still out there. Bear in mind that it was once thought that the coelacanth fish had been extinct for as long as the dinosaurs, until many specimens were found alive and well. This is not the only such example.
