BOTH!! It is typically 'illegal' to use a prescription that is not yours but not only that, if your doctor thought you would benefit from a fast acting insulin (Humalog or Novolog I am assuming) he/she would prescribe it. Or, you could inquire about coming off regular, NPH or whatever you are on and going onto a MDI regimin w/ a fast acting insulin and a background insulin...such as Lantus.

If you can't afford your meds - talk to your doctor or apply for state insurance....just stop using insulin that does not belong to you!
