Actually, the answer is, it depends on what state you are in. Most states do not classify BB guns as firearms, (in fact, I'm not sure if any state classifies them as firearms). Therefore, unless there is a specific state law saying a BB gun is illegal on school property, then it is not illegal.
A BB gun is not a firearm BUT it is a weapon. It would vary from school to school if they let you had one, but no school would let any student have a weapon, especially one that fires a projectile.
