This would be regulated by the city, township, county, parish, etc where you live. Most major cities do not allow peddlingwithout a permit. Other jurisdictions don't have a problem with it as long as the items you're selling aren't illegal, including those items that may be legal but require special permit (ie, alcohol, tobacco, fireworks). For instance, in the county where I live (I don't live in the city limits), many people sell firewood, jewelry, flowers, crafted items and things like this from their cars. As long as they don't cause a safety hazard on the roadway, officials don't really bother them. However, they are not allowed to sell food (without a permit) since the county Health Department prohibits it. Puppies have also been recently prohibited from roadside sales in our area in an effort to reduce the number of puppy farms and unreputable breeders.
